Hello all

quick question , we received 10 years ILR on brp.. naturally most would want to get brit cit after 12 months, my question is if you decide not to go for Brit Cit what happens at the end of that 10 years ?

You renew the card. Its the expiry of the card not the settlement. Its same like your driving license which has expiry date

But just keep in mind that any time more than 2 years spent out of the UK will invalidate your ILR. Short visits to UK will not be counted.

Hi

thanks for response do you mean a continues 2 year or spread out term... also are there any other dis adv of staying on ILR .. assuming your response do you mean at end of 10 years i will have to apple for new card just like dvla or do you have to re satisfy new rules etc

A Biometric card has an expiry date just like a debit card. That does NOT mean you will lose your settled immigration status, similarly when your debit card expires your bank account does not disappear :D
You simply need to apply for a new card, your status as settled resident will not change. You can even enter the UK with an expired ILR biometric card.

Disadvantages of staying on ILR (instead of becoming British) is that you could lose the settled status, for example if you are absent from the UK for more than two years or commit a serious crime.

so as long as i dont stay out continuos 2 years its not much diff i guess ?
