Italian by marriage, how long should the document system take?

I've started applying for a Italian passport by marriage. I filled in the online form and got a Ricevuta Domanda from the website. That was 9 months ago.

I know it takes a long time, but the site doesn't even show a status for my application, so I'm nervous that the system has dropped it before I've even entered the game.

Is this to be expected?
