Dear All,
I have a complex multi-generation situation.
I was born in Malawi. Both my parents secured their British passports in 1965 or before Malawi became independent. As they were living in a British Protectorate/Colony of Nyssalnd & Rhodesia I believe they were given the option to become citizens in either the new Malawi or British Citizens.
They chose British Citizen and both parents and my sister and I moved to the UK in 1974/75.
I believe I automatically received a British Passport whilst here in the UK as I think I came on my fathers or mothers passport. So I became a British Citizen.
Many years later, I have a daughter born in Russia 2010 to a Russian Mother (she will continue to reside in Russia for the next few years as I live in UK.
We applied for a British Passport but have been informed that my daughter cannot secure "at this time" because I received my citizenship by descent. So she can't.
Q1: is HM Passport correct - I received my citizenship by descent?
Q2: what are my options to allow my daughter to get a British Passport or British Citizenship?
Q3: do I have to secure a Certificate of Registration first? If yes, what act do I apply under?
Q4: should I write to the National Enquiry Advice Team? and I'm not sure what to ask them any welcome guidance on this will be helpful.
Thank you to anyone in advance who offers advice.
