EU1 Decision Delay and Car Insurance PLEASE READ

Post by npayne27 » Wed Oct 04, 2017 11:04 am

Hello,

My Husband's stamp 4 will expire in December. His EU1 residence card decision was due on the 7th September, a few weeks ago. We emailed them and sent a letter with more documents proving my income, but have not heard anything from them. My husband has a full Irish license and we are about to pay the insurance which is 2,800 euros for one year. We have to pay it in full. My Husband takes care of our children and needs the car to bring our daughter to school. How can we get info about my husband's application and what should we do? We are about to pay all this money for the insurance. He has also found it difficult to find work, VERY difficult, only had one interview out of about a hundred job applications. He has just signed up for jobseekers allowance. Do we need to send this info to Inis as well? I am also about to take on a second job in the evenings, but won't start to end of October, so won't have any proof of that until then. My husband applied for the same job but they didn't even call him. So all the workload is on me. It would be easier for him to get a job if they see he has a residence card. I am grateful to God for everything, God is so good :-) and I just want to know the decision of the residence card so we can be at peace. They have all the right documents.

Thank you

There's not much you can do presently other than wait for a decision on the Residence Card.
As you have already mentioned sending updates by registered post is one way of getting some response but this is usually generic and not much help.

Usually you would be required near the time of the Stamp 4 expiry date to visit the local INIS office and ask for renewal of the Stamp 4 whilst awaiting final decision.

Im no expert and maybe more experienced members can elaborate further but I'd be cautious about signing your husband for Job Seekers Allowance as it may adversely affect his future applications. In essence he may be considered as "scrounging" off the government because he has not paid taxes to the state as of yet (I know not his fault). Remember Stamp 4 is a "temporary" permission to stay in the State. Additionally You the Sponsor are required to be able to self support your self and your husband without recourse to public funds. INIS are likely to carry out checks so tread carefully.

As for the car insurance, there isn't a straightforward answer so it is up to you to take the risk or not.

All the best
