My friend applied for a tier 5 charity work visa to do some charity work up in scotland. However the UK embassy were 3 months late in making a decision therefore that centre has now closed for the winter season. Therefore he is in the situation of holding a valid but usless tier 5 visa as he has no placement to go to before the visa expires. However rather than wasting a fortune on a visa fee he wants to visit the UK as a tourist for two weeks. This would technically be entering the UK for a purpose other than that on the VISA. If he enters the uk with documents from the visa centre apologising for the delays and the letter from the charity stating that its now too late for him to join them because of the length of time to process the visa will an entry clearance officer be sympathetic to that? What are his chances of being denied entry as a tourist?
