FBR Question

Post by DavidSWEng » Fri Oct 13, 2017 12:29 pm

Hello,

My grandfather was born in Dublin and my father in London. Neither are still with us.

The FBR application page begins with "An application for Irish citizenship through Foreign Birth Registration (FBR) can be submitted by any person with a grandparent born in any part of Ireland".

Trouble is I can't submit as my father was never registered before his death -- the online application requires his FBR details.

Does this mean I'm not eligible to apply?

Thanks,

David

By one of those miracles I'd just posted this when the DFA responded to my old enquiry. Apparently you don't select 'Foreign Births Registration' at all, but 'Birth to a Person Born in Ireland'. On re-reading there is a note that "This relates to how the PARENT acquired Irish Citizenship". Would have saved a lot of bother if I'd read that first.
