?m I eligible for Permanent residence in the UK?

Post by tomandrews » Tue Oct 17, 2017 7:10 pm

So basically I arrived in the UK in 2003 or so as an 8 year old dutch citizen. My dad was working not too long after arrival ,But im now a 22 year old recent graduate wondering what my situation is since my time at uni in the UK wont count towards permanent residence because i was unaware of the csi requirement. Here is a quick timeline

2003 - 2006 - I was in primary and then middle school in the UK
2007 - 2011 - I was in secondary school in the uk which i completed
2011 - 2013 - Finished sixth form studies in the UK
2013 - 2016 - Finished Uni studies in the Uk
2016 - I was employed for 5 months or so before i ran in to some personal issus

(My Parents are also dutch citizens and my dad has been both been working and self employed, consistently up until 2014 or so where he took a year break for medical issues but is now up and running)

I'm now currently unemployed due to some personal troubles to do with health and mental health, However it is fast approaching my 6 month mark of unemployment and was wondering if im approaching danger zone with my residence? I've not been claiming any benefits and have been living through my savings from work. I've been also laying groundwork for an online business which I intend to start (putting my computer science degree to use) and was wondering whether it would be smart to register as a sole trader even though its still early days and revenue is minimal but over the months will increase)? would this put me with those exercising treaty rights?

If you parents or at least one of your parents was a working or self employed in any 5 years before you turned 21, then you will have already secured the right of Permanent Residence.
