Hi,
I am a UK citizen. My wife is from Belarus and we are applying for a spouse visa for her to come to live with me in the UK.
In Belarus, there are 2 official languages Russian and Belarusian. If you transcribe her maiden name from these languages the result in Latin letters can be slightly different. She had 2 passports in the past and her maiden name in each was spelt slightly differently. Recently, we obtained a birth certificate and the name there transliterated slightly different again.
Now, we are using her married name to apply for a UK visa. When asked for her maiden name, we will use the name according to her birth certificate. We are worried that the slight difference in spelling in the former passports may appear confusing.
Could anyone advise us whether this could be a problem and if there is something we can do to mitigate it, say for example by mentioning it in the supporting letter?
Thankyou,
Dave
