Director of a limited company

Post by Aaina » Wed Nov 08, 2017 9:53 am

Hi,

We are looking for a business after getting a tier 1 enterpreneur visa and it is taking us sometime to find a suitable business and a suitable location. As the first rule for extension states that one should register as a director of a limited company within 6 months, can we register a name of the company at my house's address and as a dormant company for now to meet the first rule and once we find a location we will get the address updated and change the status to trading?

Is this something we can do?

Thanks

You have two options:
1) Register yourself as self-employed
2) Register as a Director
Both are easy enough to do.
But why would you want to register a new company and mark it as Dormant immediately ? There are no obligations for at least a year after it is registered. It would be preferable to keep the company on record as active rather than dormant.

Oh okay, thanks

The reason I was marking it as dormant was because then we might have to hire an accountant immediately if it's active. Am I right?

Secondly, can we just register it at our home address and change the address later once we have a suitable place to rent?

Thank you

Regards

There is no requirement to have an accountant - entirely up to you. I do all the accounts myself - there are some great accounting software and UK has relatively simple rules so you can mostly do it yourself. You need an accountant to prepare one set of accounts for your renewal submission.
Change of address, name or any other particulars has no impact on immigration.

Hi Aaina, I am in the same situation, been 6-7 months and I am still in the initial phase of finalising my launch strategy, might still take 2-3 more months, but registering company is very easy and as stated by Marcnath, you don't need to have any account right away at all. You can chose a company formation agent at a nominal price, they also offer registered address service and forward all the mail to your personal address, that's what I did.
