Tier 4 uk visa holder requiring some clarifications

Hi,
I am an Indian citizen currently studying in UK. I have a tier 4 visa for UK. I have a BRP which is valid till January 2019.
I have a sister living in Paris and she is inviting me to visit her during Christmas.
But someone in the uni told me that "I should stay for at least 3 months before applying for schengen visa. Is this true?
I arrived in UK on 20th September. So am I currently not eligible for applying for a Schengen visa.
