Best time to apply for a Spouse Visa

Post by JWatson » Mon Nov 20, 2017 9:48 pm

My wife will be applying for a spouse visa at some point in the next year (she's in Singapore) assuming it is granted then from that point... how long does she then have to leave Singapore and join me in the U.K?
I’ve read somewhere that she must then enter the U.K. within 3 months of having the spouse visa granted but is that correct? Could she say enter 8 months after the spouse visa was granted? (given that the visa is valid for 33 months).

We are trying to time it right in submitting the spouse visa application as I know that it can take over 3 months for it to be granted (from Singapore) and she wants to continue contracting in Singapore whilst the process is happening but also give her employer due notice regarding leaving.

Things have moved on and your wife will now be required to enter the UK with 30 days of the visa issue date in order to collect her Biometrics from a designated Post Office within 10 days of arrival.

Although it's possible to apply for a replacement 30 day visa vignette (for an additional fee), waiting to enter 8 months after the visa issue date will leave a considerable short-fall in the 2.5 year residence needed to apply for the FLR(M) extension.

Thank you Casa, appreciated. That casts a different perspective on things and we'll need to rethink. I hadn't found that info anywhere on the gov.uk site... thanks again, very helpful.
