Hi good morning everyone. We were basically trying to find out what exactly my wife's type of British status is so we can tell what our son is as well. She was born in Manila, Philippines on 1982. We went through the UK gov website (https://www.gov.uk/check-british-citizen) and here are the questions:
1.) When were you born?
- Before 1 January 1983 [x]
- On or after 1 January 1983
2.) Were you born in the UK or a qualifying territory?
- Yes
- No [x]
3.) Were you a UK and Colonies citizen on 31 December 1982 with right of abode in the UK?
You may have been a UK and Colonies citizen if you were born before 1983 in a country that was a UK colony at the time, or if you had a connection with a colony through your father. You may have lost that status if the country later became independent.
Right of abode means you have the right to live and work in the UK without any immigration restrictions.
This information should be shown in your passport.
This now is a question I need to verify because the Home Office, apparently, can't verify this for me (for some stupid reason!). We have this document as you can see below:
We are unsure what the above document is but does this certify my wife being a UK citizen? If it does, does that make my wife a British citizen and not a British-by-descent?
Thank you in advance.
