Tier 2 request for additional document (Criminal Record)

Hi all,

I've recently applied for a Tier 2 shortage occupation visa. I am working in a field that doesn't require me to produce a police certificate, but the Home Office recently sent me an email requesting I obtain them. This is a HUGE inconvenience especially since I've paid for a priority visa. I called the Home Office and they said this is unusual especially since my occupation does not fall under one of the categories for this certificate. They said would look into and get back to me. Does anyone know why they'd request this? I declared traffic violations (speeding). Does this mean they just want to verify my word or something else? Is there a way I can get a waiver for this? All answers appreciated.
