Options for Spouse

Post by JezzrW » Thu Nov 30, 2017 5:53 pm

Great forum, wish I had thought of looking for it before doing extension visa, as found the warning thread about timescales - We applied early so my wife's Spouse visa expires 13 Dec 2017 and she will have been hear 5 years on 14 Feb 2018!

1. So, I'm looking at the HM Immigration website and it seems that we have to apply 28 days before expiry but processing times are 8 weeks. What happens between (I assume limbo). Is it perfectly OK to apply online and remain here waiting the extension?
2. Does it have to be a Spouse extension (as she needs to be resident for 3 months and 2 days) - are there cheaper options?
3. The lovely Health Surcharge - as the spouse visa extension is 30 months, does this mean that the Health Surcharge will kindly be levied for the whole peiod, even though we only want a few months? Are there other options.
4. If the extension has to be granted before the expiry of the existing leave to remain, it will mean Premium Service I assume (yes and extra chunk of money to the treasury). Are there other options to reduce costs?

Many thanks

(to all advisors posting on the site - thank you from everyone who looks at, reads and receives any advise. You are all unknown heros!)
