Extreme urgent - Bank statements seal issue for Tier 4

Post by hereb » Tue Dec 05, 2017 6:04 pm

Hello Everyone,

I am in need of an urgent advise. I have got admission and obtained CAS and the Uni's legal team is working at snail's pace reviewing one page per day. Nearly after two weeks they say that the bank statement provided do not have seal on it. I have HSBC UK account and they have a policy not to seal on any documents they give. I got my statements and a letter from bank stating funds available but it also states the statements are temporary. I was told that any document banks give is valid for one month from the date it is issued and could be used for any legal purpose including home office. Mention of temporary is because it is just valid for a month, though I gave the actual online statements today to legal team.

If I submit the statement would it be any issue with entry clearance officer, most of the UK banks dont give seals so I have the letter from the branch and a valid statement(just mentioning temporary) will that suffice or should I give online statements, there is no difference between what bank gives on their letterhead and what we download, even banks do the same (as told to me by bank staff at canary wharf) I have also given another statement from NATWEST which has seal on it but there has not been any transaction for last one month but it is also valid for one month from the time it was issued. Natwest bank has limited transaction but was opened an year ago.

Please advise urgently as I have to file for visa in next couple of days.

What do they mean by a "seal"? The requirements for a bank statement are listed in paragraph 219i of the Tier 4 Policy Guidance, and the requirements for a bank letter are in paragraph 219iii. Neither of them include a "seal".

I think he means 'official stamp'.... (seal = stamp)
My advice is based on personal research/experience, so pls check relevant UKVI sources.

I 'm referring to Stamp, that's how solicitor termed it. HSBC is very clear that there is no stamp policy, but the issue legal team says that statements are mentioned as temporary. Statements are issued in London and they are valid for any legal stuff, so I want to know if I can still submit them with the letter bank manager has given?

This is all laid out in paragraph 219i. Any bank statement you use must include:

  • your name or your parent’s/legal guardian’s name; and
  • the account number; and
  • the financial institution’s name and logo; and
  • the amount of money available.

It also confirms that "temporary" statements printed by the bank are acceptable as they are, without any stamp or supporting letter, as long as they contain everything required in a bank statement. Paragraph 219i of the Policy Guidance confirms this:

Ad hoc bank statements printed on the bank’s letterhead are acceptable as evidence (this excludes mini-statements from cash points).

It is statements that you print yourself which need a stamp on every page or a letter from the bank, but not both:

If you wish to submit electronic bank statements these must contain all of the details listed above. In addition, you will need to provide a supporting letter from your bank on company headed paper, confirming the authenticity of the statements provided.

Alternatively an electronic bank statement bearing the official stamp of the bank in question will be accepted. This stamp must appear on every page of the statement.
