New Standard visitor visa before the old one exists

Hello all,
I live in germany and i have a standard business visa that expires on 28th Dec.. i work for a company and we have a very important meeting in the first week of january for which i need to be there.My question is can i apply for a new standard business visa for uk in germany before 28th Dec to travel in the first week of january or can i only apply once my visa expires..
