Notarised translation of father's death certificate

Post by afitzgerald » Thu Dec 21, 2017 10:30 am

I am applying for citizenship through my paternal grandfather. My father died in France and I have his French death certificate - do I need a notarised translation in France or one done in Ireland? I tried an application and they refused the translation from France but no reason given why.

Any ideas ?

Thanks
Anthony

Hi there,

My experience might help and be applied in your case

When I had to register my children in my home country I had to get their birth certificates certified by the UK government Foreign Office through Apostille Stamp to confirm authenticity. After this I took the birth Certs and Apostille Stamp to translate them in my native language. I did this at my home country’s embassy in the UK. These steps ensured a successful registration of my children.

Perhaps is worth you considering the same steps since the Foreign Office Apostille Stamp and the English translation by the French Embassy in Dublin are two institutions that will more than satisfy INIS requirements?

There’s no reason why the Certificate in Ireland can’t be used providing this is obviously recognised by the Irish government.

Good Luck
