Employment verification letter

Post by clear9 » Thu Dec 21, 2017 1:15 pm

Hi,

I'm hoping someone can help me with a question about supporting documents for naturalisation.

I understand that EU applicants should include letters from employers to evidence lawful residence for the qualifying period.

One of my former employers, for whom I worked five years ago, provided a letter verifying my employment in 2012. However, this verification letter is dated January 2016. Thus the letter is nearly two years old. (I used this letter to support an application for a PR document.)

For my current naturalisation application, should I request a new letter from this employer, so that the date is more current, or may I use this same letter in support of my application?

As always, I'm grateful for any insight that could be provided.

There is no absolute requirement to include letters from employers (many people use their P60s), however this could be useful if you only had one or few employers for the period you are declaring. I would say you are ok with the letter you got, especially if the company is still in business, as they could do follow-up checks.
This is just my opinion as a member of this forum and does not constitute immigration advice.

I used P60s, and then payslips to cover the period between the last P60 and now (to show that I was still employed). Letter for employer is only to replace those things- like if you can't get hold of your P60s/enough payslips, and need some other proof to cover that time period.
