UK passport application form and blue ink

Post by AlexCh » Tue Mar 11, 2008 5:02 pm

I know that according to the guide the passport application form must be completed using black ink, but does anybody know from practical experience if UKPI really rejects form filled with blue ink?

My wife needs to apply for her first passport and her referee filled his part on the form using blue ink, the referee now went abroad on holiday. Does it still worth to send the application or it will be rejected? Problem is we have not so much time left before the holiday and first time applications are now taking several weeks.

I don't know what choice you have? If your referee cannot be contacted to re-write it in black, then I'd send it in as it is (especially considering the time is limited). I'd send in a covering letter as well just in case.

From personal experience when I applied for my wife and son's passport, the passport service did write a letter (on both occasion) to the referee and asked him to confirm his qualifications and that he indeed had signed the application(s). So you may have to wait for your referee to come back from holidays anyway.
