Getting my son who is born in the Philippines.

Post by wentots » Sun Dec 24, 2017 3:10 am

Hi everyone!

I received my birthday & christmas present early, best day of my life!

My wife got her spouse visa yesterday and she was approved. I would like to thank this forum for guiding me with my wifes spouse visa.

My wife will be arriving here on 19/01/2018 and Now we are thinking of applying my son a british passport as soon as my gets here to UK.

I am a british Citizen via naturalisation (non other by descent) since 2011 and I would to know if I would be able to apply my son a british passport before registering him as a british citizen and what documents do I need to provide.

Thank you for all your help.

Congratulations.

As your son was born this year and you naturalised in 2011, your son is automatically a British citizen by descent and can apply directly for a British passport. There is no need to register him.

Be aware that overseas applications can take upto a year. Alternatively, if your son is the citizen of another country (such as the Philippines), you can apply for a CoE-RoA with a Filipino passport. That typically takes between six and sixteen weeks.

What did you apply for your son for, is he coming with a Right of Abode or a visa of similar duration to mum?
