Tier 2 dependent extension &police clearance certificate

Dear All,
I'm currently on ILR via tier 2 general 5 years route and my wife is currently on tier 2 dependent visa which due for renewal in January. My understanding is she can either extend via tier 2 route or as a dependent of a settled person. My questions are

1. What's the advantage and disadvantage of renewing the visa under each category?

2. If she is extending via Tier 2 dependent route does she need the criminal record certificate?

If she takes settled route that means she will apply FLR this will reset her clock to zero. She will need to be on FLR for 5 years
If she extends ob pbs-dependant then she can apply for ILR once she completes 5 years.

2. If she is extending via Tier 2 dependent route does she need the criminal record certificate?

Thats not general requirement unless she is from specific country. Did she have to provide criminal record certificate with initial app?

Many thanks for your reply... She is from India and she didn't have to produce the criminal record certificate with her initial application.

Does she need to have this certificate for her tier 2 dependent visa extension applying within UK?

As far as I know there is no need to produce criminal record for T2 extension
