Passport Application -proving my status

Over the past 6months i have been back and forth trying to apply for a passport and gathering information to meet the requirements, as i understand it these are my circumstances.

Currently work in IT, had no problems passing background checks 2 years ago.
Born in 93 in the uk, my parents were married at the time afaik they divorced in 98/99
Sister was born in 89 has already applied for her passport with no issues

Born to African parents who were naturalised (possible proof of mothers citizenship) no idea about my father although i have photocopies of old passports with both of their names so they must have been british citizens??

Copies of old passports of my mother and father.

How do i go about proving that im a british citizen without having to go through naturalisation? I recently called the passport office for them to tell me that i was stateless and have no way to prove any of my claims.

I dont live with my family i was in foster care since i was 6, now 24 so basically whats the best way of applying for my passport as i dont have the 1k to naturalise and i honestly think im british by descent.

I have just submitted a sar via the home office on myself to see what if anything i can gather but im worried about my job at this point as i was told over the phone i have no right to work or live in this country.

Any help navigating the system would be appreciated at this point im at a loss on how to move forward

If you have passport photocopies of your parents possibly these show their British. So now you need to get your birth certificate as you were born here, and take both to the home office to prove you are not stateless.

But if the photocopy passports you have are not british you need to speak to your parents to get them at least one of them to help you perhaps accompany you to the home office with all the documentation, their actual original passports etc.

Ive been living on my own since i was out of foster care, all i have is a stack of legal paperwork that was to do with me being put into care.

If i cannot contact them whats the best way to proceed?
I do have my original birth certificate, atleast thats something.
