Apply for extension of tier 2seven months in advance

My query is related to Tier 2 general visa extension. I have completed 2 years , 6 months on my current visa - 1 year remaining to expire.
I want to renew my visa (for another 3 years ) now, and need to know if we can do that 7 months in advance of current visa expiry?

I understand from other posts that it is possible to apply in advance if we have a valid COS. In this case ,what should be the start date of the COS ?

1: current date ( now)
Or
2: expiry date of current visa ( 7 months after)

Any reason you want to apply 7 months prior to the expiry date?

I have dependents whose visa needs to be done renewed earlier hence I am keen to know if this is possible, also is there a way to mention this in the application, please advise. Thanks
