can we BUNAC-->FIANCEE-->MARRIAGE?

Post by ttoommnn » Wed Mar 12, 2008 2:10 am

I'm a UK citizen, and so it looks like sponsorship is out of the question for my girlfriend, 21y/o US citizen graduating from uni in June and looking to stay with me in England. BUNAC is only good for 6 months which is not long enough for us, so it looks like marriage is on the cards. One question for anyone out there is can she come over on BUNAC transfer to a fiancee visa and then get married? Or will it be cheaper and easier to come over on Fiancee, get married asap and then we're good to go? Also will her not taking my name affect the marriage visa?
Last question, approx cost of all this malarky?
Thanks anyone,
Tom

I dunno owt about BUNAC and if u can switch in country but as far as I know u can't switch to fiancee visa in any case, she'd have to apply from home.

So that would be costs of BUNAC visa (if any) flight home 500 quid say, fiancee visa 500 quid, marry, 385 quid for FLR two year visa then 750 quid ILR. Not cheap is it?

Or, just marry in USA which has no residency requirements in most states and apply for spouse visa, cost, 1000 quid flight, 500 quid spouse visa which IS the two year FLR, 750 ILR two years later.

NOt much in it really, flights maybe cheaper than I said bit my mate's just gone to Chicago and it cost 477 quid flight only.

For these visa tho you'll have to pass a financial and accommodation test, which won't be easy if you are a student, which ISTR you are.

British birds are cheaper mate, believe me, but with the drawback that they are mostly rubbish!

.

Also, if you go to the U.S. to marry there, you can enter without a visa for 90 days.

DO NOT mention your intention to marry! That is something that will 'just happen' while you are doing a bit of tourism ...

DO NOT overstay, either. A very common mistake that is best avoided.
