Proof of Residency for housewife

Post by SweatyBetty282 » Sun Dec 31, 2017 11:50 am

Hi, I'm hoping some of you might be able to help me.

I'm Irish (so don't have exit/entry stamps in my passport) and have been living in the UK for 5 years with my British husband. I recently acquired my Permanent Residency.

How many documents do I need to prove that I have been resident here for the past 3 years? I have around 2 letters a year from govt depts or educational establishments. Will that be enough? I'd be really grateful to hear how anyone else in a similar situation has gotten on?

Thanks.

You do not have to apply for anything as an Irish citizen as you're treated as a settled person due to agreement between UK and IRELAND. You are not even counted as part of immigration from EU due to the agreement and uptil now is still in place.

Same apply to your husband if he chooses to stay on IRELAND.

Enjoy your status!
It is really good to help and everyone deserve to be respected in life. Good luck.

Thanks for your reply but I am keen to become a citizen as you never know what legislation there might be in the future. Happy New Year to you.

A few personal or joint (with husband) account statements that the housewife name appears should suffice.

They prefer P60, self employment account statement or (joint) mortgage documents, etc as "harder" evidence. It could be useful explaining that you have not been working and lived as a housewife in a cover letter and these letter(s) are all you can provide them...

If you do so, they would not reject you for lack of residency evidence. If they are suspicious you could be likely contacted or more rarely interviewed, however I think the first go to persons to ask about your residency would be your two referees.

All the best and happy new year!
