Post by Mal111 » Tue Jan 02, 2018 11:03 am

hi guys

I applied citizenship back in aug 2016 got second letter in feb 2017 since then the application is in process.
is anyone else facing similar length of delay?
ps: application is based on EUFAM also I was granted permanent residence back in oct 2016 (PR application took only 1 week I don't know why the citizenship app is taking sooo long)

Hi there,
Its nothing to worry about my friend. I applied early Feb 2016 & only got approval in late september 2017. A person I know had applied in Mar 2016 is still waiting for approval. In my personal opinion it depends on where you are from originally as well. If they need some verification from that country. The faster they get all the verifications the sooner we get approvals. Lately what is happening in around the world, sham marriages & married in native country also. So in short need good few verifications. Be patient your time will come. I am very hopeful you will be attending next ceremony.

The best option is to seek legal advice. I applied in Aug 2016 and my application was not moving a bit ever since. I met a solicitor and after his letters to citizenship my application has been submitted to minister and now I am waiting for decision.

I made a number of calls but to no avail. I even went to my local TD three times but same standard copy/paste response was sent to TD as well.

My solicitor sent a letter in Oct 2017 and I got response after 3 weeks that my application is being prepared for submission to minister. After 5 weeks in Dec 2017 my solicitor sent another letter asking for an update but no response. He sent a reminder and got response on 12 Jan that my application has been submitted to minister and as they get a response they will let us know.

So if someone has been waiting for more than 1 year and they still getting standard copy/paste responses, in my opinion they should seek legal advice. I know it will cost you money but at least you will get a proper response from citizenship.

I hope it will help someone.

I also applied in Aug 2016 and am still waiting. Every time i emailed them I was getting the standard reply back saying it's being prepared for submitting.
Just there on Friday I got a letter to say that they want me to send them a ACRO criminal record certificate. I did send them a police check certificate when I applied and don't no why are asking for this now. No one else i know has had to send this and it costs 45 pound lol

Delays such as a year of waiting can mean alot of things. Do u guys have any convictions? Even traffic convictions? Try to check in the garda watch if you’re name is on the database. Secondly, if you submitted documents that is probably not a straight forward application.

Hi All
I have applied in June 2016, have no conviction or anything like that, waiting for 19 months now. Got the second stage letter. Its frustrating at this stage.

No convictions at all. My police check I sent to them at time of application was all clear so baffled as to why I have had to just spend another 45 pound on getting this Arco check, which when I done a bit of research into is for ppl who are looking to immigrate to the likes of Australia.

I've emailed them to ask why , No response as yet.

I applied based on EU 4Fam as well. I think they processing those slower (taking into account that people have long term residence)

Hi Folks,
Just a quick question for you. I applied for citizenship in August 2016 and I got second stage letter in Feb 2017 and then in October 2017 They ask for my passport which I send directly to them and they send it back after more than 10 weeks. The funny thing is that today I received second stage letter from them again. Do you know what does that mean and why I have received two second stage letters with 1 year difference. BTW, the application is based on 5 years residence non-EU.

When I applied it was the old format at that time and they didn't ask me to submit my passport. In Feb 2017 they send second stage letter but surprisingly they send the second stage letter again today.

the form was published on the 15th of aug 2016 if you use old form after that date then the new rules apply to you such as submitting original passport etc etc

maybe they are re processing your application from october 2017 when you submitted your original passport to them or maybe the second letter they sent you today was just error

I have applied early August before publishing the new form and for this there was nothing about sending the passport. I hope it is an error as I can not believe that they hold my application for long time despite sending letter confirming that it is been proceeded to second stage of processing. I will send them a letter tomorrow with copies of the two second stage letters and I will ask for clarification regarding this.

Actually everything is expected from them but why they send me the first second stage letter long time ago and they didn't ask for passport at that time. The mess in this office is unbelievable.

I really feel sorry for all of us who are waiting this long time particularly those who really need the citizenship to facilitate their lives in the country or to find a better future.
Hopefully things will get better for all of us soon.
