Lost BRP, Travelling in 2 Weeks

Post by JamesDaniels » Wed Jan 03, 2018 6:03 pm

Hello,

I am a Chinese student studying in England. I have lived here for two years.
Yesterday I lost my BRP and although my passport is valid, my passport visa is out of date.

I have read online that the wait time for a replacement BRP is 4-12 weeks, but I have a vacation to see my family in China booked for in two weeks (19th Jan). I am concerned that I won't be able to re-enter the UK after my vacation. What are my options?

Thanks,

Ran

You don't really have options, unless you want to cancel your trip and stay in the UK to apply for the replacement BRP, but I assume you don't want to do that.

Otherwise your only option is:

1. Report the missing BRP at https://www.gov.uk/biometric-residence- ... en-damaged. You will get a link with the form to apply for a replacement, but do not apply.

2. Travel as planned. During your trip home, apply for a single use BRP visa in order to return to the UK. The instructions are here, under Biometric Residence Permit > Lost / stolen / damaged outside the UK:
https://www.ukcisa.org.uk/Information-- ... P-problems

3. When you get home, and no more than 3 months after you reported it missing, apply for a replacement BRP, using the link they sent you when you first reported it.

My work is done. But do run your plan by your international student adviser before finalising your plan.

To keep it in proportion, as you say that is just one refusal. A very weird one too, where the applicant messed up the application, and the ECO botched the decision. That's the first refusal of a single-use BRP visa I have ever heard of, and I have must have helped at least 25 students do it in the last year.

OP, it's a pretty routine application, but if you are concerned speak to your international student adviser.

Have also helped a high portion of students with this. There's only one issue that I've been personally aware of, and that's when people do not report the BRP as lost, or report it lost but then don't go to the police, or follow the next instructions by UKVI. One student I am aware of faced a civil penalty for this, as they ignored instructions.
