Obtaining a Passport if your passport was lost or stolen

Post by peacefultraveller » Thu Jan 04, 2018 12:20 am

(1) report the loss or knowledge of stolen to the nearest or your local police station ASAP

(2) make sure you get hold of the copy of the report

(3) If you have a copy of your passport, for example : data page or alterations page, it would be helpful but if you don't then it's okay too

(4) contact the embassy or the consulate of your origin country of citizenship; then explain to them about the loss and apply for the replacement or new passport; it must be noted that your consulate may require your current proof of status in the united kingdom, so you might need to submit or show proof of visa (if it was in the passport; then provide a copy) or bio-metric residence card

(5) once you receive the new passport you can notify the home office to update the passport or to apply for the replacement visa (if sticker was in the lost passport) " replacement of vignette" due to loss of passport; you might need to ask if you need to show any supporting evidence etc.

It would also be beneficial to note the exact date/time of loss of passport or the moment you realize it was lost.
