Tier 2 Extension - CoS End Date

Hi All- I am new to the forum !
I am in Tier 2 General 3 years visa and I am eligible for 3 year extension. For the extension by mistake, my employer had issued CoS with incorrect end date which runs only for 2 years. My employer said he will update the sponsor note with the correct end date. will sponsor note be suffice or do I need to insist to issue a new CoS? Please advice.
