British Passport Application- ILR one parent

Post by jackman81 » Mon Jan 29, 2018 9:46 pm

Dear Experts,

I was granted an ILR visa in May 2017 (through Tier 2 general visa). My son was born in Apr 2015 and he has been registered as Tier 2 dependent since his birth. The dependent visa expires in June 2018. I have changed jobs in Jan 2018

My questions:
1. Can I apply for my son's British passport while my wife is yet to get ILR visa (in Feb 2018)?
2. Which set of application form is required for my son?
3. What supporting documents are required for my son's application ?
4. will my job change have any impact on the application? (considering that my previous Tier 2 sponsor would have cancelled the sponsorship after I received my ILR)

Appreciate your help in this regard.

1. If son was born in the UK, then he is entitled to register as a British citizen.
2. MN1.
3. See form.
4. No.

MN1- faster Route- NCS or NDRS & JCAP query

Post by jackman81 » Mon Feb 12, 2018 10:08 pm

Dear experts,

1. Which is a faster route for MN1 application approval- NCS or NDRS?
NCS is a offline MN1 application submitted via NCS
NDRS is an online MN1 application submitted via NCS/NDRS

2. Has JCAP service been withdrawn from the councils?

Thanks.

Online applications appear to be going faster through decision times.

No, some councils are accepting both online and paper forms still.

Thanks.

IS JCAP necessarily an offline application?
i.e. if I opt for JCAP do I have to submit a printed copy of the filled MN1 form (Termed NCS) or can I do it online(Termed NDRS) as well?
Thank you in advance.

Separate passport application Vs JCAP- faster route?

Post by jackman81 » Wed Feb 14, 2018 11:18 pm

Hi Experts/members,

I am applying for my son's BC and passport under section 1(3) , MN1.(child's age 3 years)

Looking at the JCAP application through NCS, is it better to apply via NDRS and then separately for passport after registration certificate is received ? It looks like JCAP timelines are over 3 months and there is no seamless comms between UKBA and HMPO?

Any suggestion will be hugely appreciated as we need to travel in mid-April

Thanks & regards

I would say the processing time is pretty much same these days but I would still go with applying for passport saperately, through post office check and send or even online.

Use JCAP for printed MN1
Use NDRS for online MN1

Hope it is simple now.

Diasgree.

NDRS is pretty fast now. Apply for passport at same time to avoid hassle later.

Better to apply onlne and then use NDRS and submit passport application at same time. If you use paper application/NCS, it highly highly unlikely you will have British passport in tme for your travel in April. It is a different story altogether if your child already has a visa to return back to the UK.

Thank You Plabo/ Bruteforce

I guess there is a widespread confusion on NCS, NDRS and JCAP. This is my understanding
NCS + JCAP = Offline MN1 printed form + Passport printed form
NDRS + JCAP = Online MN1 printed form + Passport printed form

quite naturally, the online mode should be faster. But, the question is: Does a joint passport application along with MN1 adds to the complexity of comms between UKVI and HMPO leading to longer timescales of approval?

This option turning to be the best as it will reduce at least 3-4 weeks of your total processing e.g.
  • Pay Online
  • Download Biometric letter online
Even if u apply via NCS it takes 2-3 weeks to get bio-metric letter ! I suggest go for NDRS (you still can keep your orginal docs)

Guys ,

I am in same boat. I am not clear from the response here .

I am using MN1 Online with NDRS
&
Paper passort from ,again NDRS to keep orginal document.

So in nutshell it's JCAP.

My Council has said that they will accept MN1 online and paper Passport form ( obtain from post office). Is this appropriate route ?Given other council are not allowing this route, i don't want to trapped into unique case ?

Or better until MN1 registration through online and then apply passport online?will this be quicker than JCAP above ?

It seems based on recent timelines that online + NDRS is a bit faster and also cheaper in most councils than paper form + NCS (JCAP). All the best!

@shreejiswami

Yes, that is the standard now for JCAP. Online naturalisation application and paper passport form.

Contact UK Visas and Immigration about your application.

Or, if you applied via your council, then make enquiries with them?
