Unmarried partner settlement plus children

Post by Singing Seagull » Sun Feb 11, 2018 7:25 am

Hi everyone. Getting pretty stressed and frustrated at this moment and would really appreciate some sensible advice.

Situation is this. I am British citizen and have lived in Indonesia with my partner and her two kids for five years. We meet all criteria (I believe) and now want to move as a family to uk.

Using the visa4UK application route we are trying to apply through VFS Jakarta.

I’ve keyed one set of applications and went to the next stage of paying IHS fees. On my partner’s application it stated in the (unamendable) summary that she has no dependants, despite the application form showing “yes” to that question and then completing the drop-downs with the children’s info. I looked at paying the children’s IHS and theirs stated that the main applicant is under 18 and they are therefore exempt. I wish, but of course that’s not the case!

After useless replies from the UK Visa help desk, I am now rekeying the applications. I suspect the three weren’t linked properly within the system and each was treated as a separate application.

It occurs to me that instead of keying the kids’ applications through the tab “applying for someone else”, should I perhaps key those through “applying for myself”? But I don’t want to progress unless I know I’m doing the right thing.

Pretty frustrated at thinking we’d done everything well, only to find that I can’t pay! Without paying we can’t make an appointment for biometrics and therefore at this moment we’re rather stuck!

Can anyone tell me :

- Which tab should kids applications go though?
- Is there any other solution we should be looking at?

Thanks in advance everyone!

Your wife and her children are the applicants and you are their sponsor. However before you proceed, how will you meet the following:

1. Annual minimum income of £27,200 https://www.gov.uk/uk-family-visa/proof-income

2. Are you now living in the UK or outside with your partner and her children?

3. Where is the child's natural father and does your wife have sole custody through the Court?

Not surprising that you were given poor advice from the Home Office 'helpline'. This is outsourced to an agency, whose staff are notorious for giving incorrect advice, even on the simplest of immigration issues. Call them 10 times and you're likely to be given 10 different answers.

Thanks Casa. I’m fine with all the requirements and documentation etc, it’s the keying system that’s my problem and that’s what I’m trying to master! Either I did something wrong to cause the applications not to be linked, or there was some kind of system error when I tried to complete payment of IHS. Any ideas on that aspect?

I'll have to leave others who have more experience of the drop-down menu to answer this.

Hi Singing Seagull! So I've been through a successful visa application and wrote my entire experience, listing out exactly what to do and what to look out for here. Hopefully this helps anyone else going through this process as well. I did this specifically because I got really stressed out too.

I break everything down into easy steps, so hopefully if you are applying, this will help!
