EU visa, Romanian in Paris meets South African

Post by cristinastefan » Tue Feb 13, 2018 9:57 pm

Hi!

I am a little confused and hoping to find some guidance. I hold a Romanian passport but live and work in Paris. My fiancee is South African and we would like to settle down in Paris. Can anyone help me on how this works with his visa? Does it matter if we get married in Paris or Romania or South Africa? (or anywhere else, really)

Ooof... help :(

If you marry in South Africa your spouse could apply for a visa for a family member of a eu citizen and after entry to France apply for a residence card for a family member of a eu citizen.

Marrying in France or Romania would it make more complicated to get a visa for the marriage.

Hello,
Since you live in Paris, it is better to get married in Paris. Then apply at perfecture in Paris for spouse of an EU national residence card. It's easier that way. Am in the same both as you. Am British married to an African.

The fiancee would need to fulfill the preconditions due to national immigration law for a marriage visa.
Before the marriage the partner is not a family member of a eu citizen.
