Children born to two British parents in Indian are not eligible for CoE-RoA and should apply for a British passport instead.

Did the child succeed in getting an Indian passport?

Fascinating. Was it made clear to the Indian authorities that both the parents were British citizens with OCI?

If so, it would mean that children born in India to parents with OCI get full Indian citizenship (OCIs are not issued Indian passports, but a passport like OCI Card).

It is possible that the passport was issued in error.

Hi secret.simon,

Thanks for the information.

Yes they (Indian authorities) checked our british passport along with OCIs.

So can we go and apply CoE in this case?

Please suggest

Thanks in advance

No problem with applying for a CoE-RoA from the British side.

I was under the impression that the child would be ineligible for an Indian passport and hence a CoE-RoA would not be an option.

If the child gets an Indian passport, then s/he can apply for a CoE-RoA without any issues.

Thanks secret.simon

The reason i opt this CoE is to bring my child as soon as possible.

If we apply CoE we need to submit our passports as per the application process (Both mother and father i mean)

By the time i hope there is no objection from british side.

Please suggest.

Thanks in advance

If you google it, the first link is the Regulations.

What information about the Regulations do you want?

It meant that if you wanted to order a hard copy (essentially a printout) of the Regulations from HMSO/TSO in 2006, it would have cost you £3. It would now cost you £8.50, not including delivery charges. Or you could print it out at your local library for less.

The cost of a CoE-RoA currently is £472 and likely to increase in April, in line with other fees.

Hi secret.simon,

Thank you so much for the below details.

Can you please let me suggest on the below query.

We wanted to submit the application in mid of april but is it a good idea to fill the online application and submit the fee before the price hike in april.

Kind Regards
Sri

It’s a good idea to submit the application before the likely fee increases, unless they unlikely decrease the fees.

Hi friends, Vinny, secret.simon,

I am in the same boat as Srikanth and Dev. My wife and I are both British passport holders (naturalised in 2014) with OCI cards. We are having our baby in India. Both are working in Bahrain, but wife is on maternity leave in India. We would like to go back to Bahrain soon after the baby is born and resume life as normal, but the British passport application process from India seems to be a long and painful waiting game.

Can we apply for an Indian passport for the baby? What category does the baby qualify for Indian passport under - by descent or by birth or by registration?

We plan to apply to British passport for the baby after reaching Bahrain, as it is faster from there. Is this likely to cause the baby to then have to surrender the Indian passport and apply for OCI?

Many thanks in advance.
Justin
