Tier 4 visa and Tourist visa

Hello

I need your help. i currently have a tier 4 visa running and prior to obtaining this visa, i had a 5 years visiting visa. i heard from someone that you cant have 2 vilid visa, that once i obtained the tier 4, the visiting visa is cancelled automatically. This is quite strange to me. pls advise.
