EEA1/EEA2 application and council tax

Post by ran » Sat Mar 29, 2008 11:02 am

Hi,

I have been a regular user of your forum which I find extremely informative and helpful! I had recently got loads of good advice while applying for EEA1/EEA2 joint application in february.

A further development has occurred and I am a bit worried although I think we should be ok.
Me(Indian) and my wife (dutch) moved into new apartment in June'07. At that time we had recieved acouncil tax bill for the financial year till Mar'08. But we had claimed some benefit as my wife is a full time matriculated student at the University of Edinburgh although I have a full time job. On talking to the council tax office they had confirmed we should recieve some discount on the same and they had said they would send us a revised bill. But we had no intimation from them for a few months until recently when we got a letter exempting us from all CT for this financial year as well as till Mar'09 citing it was an all student property! I got in touch with them citing a mistake and they said again a revised bill for both years would be sent to me and they would get in touch with me by friday (28th).

Havent recieved any communication as yet and I intend to follow it up on monday. I have gone through very dilligently posts on this topic (especially IKP's post) as well the govt. websites. Like many of the members of the forum I do not condone any benefits fraud and stuff like that. I hope all this gets sorted very soon and as you may well appreciate the fault was not mine as till date I have not recieved any revised amount to be paid!

But I still am worried about the impact of this on my application. Is there anything else that I should be doing like contacting the HO etc. I am determined to clear up the council bills next week hopefully if the people there can get their act together. But any advice would be appreciated.

Have a very good weekend.

REgards,

It should have no impact on anything. Do not worry at all. In fact, even if you had committed a real crime (rather than the council messing things up), it would only in exceptional circumstances have an impact on your ability to stay in the UK.

Read about it all in http://eumovement.wordpress.com/directive-200438ec/
