Please advise me

Post by Dolu12 » Wed Mar 14, 2018 1:22 pm

Hi all, I will be very grateful if anyone can advise me what to do with this situation I found myself. I’m living in Ireland, I was born in Nigeria and have Nigerian citizenship. Few years ago, I became Irish citizen through naturalisation. Recently I found out that when I was born, my date of birth wasn’t recorded in a proper way (there is an error in the last digit of the birth year) and in the result, I was using the wrong date of birth throughout my adult life. I already obtained information on how to correct it in the system of my country of birth which will result with court order and change of birth certificate and new passport with correct date of birth. My question is if there is possibility to amend the date of birth on my certificate of naturalisation and propagate this date to other institutions in Ireland after receiving all documentation from Nigerian court. Will Ireland accept it and issue an amended certificate of naturalisation? I wish to acquire more information on options I have in this situation before processing official change of birth in country of origin.

Kind regards,

Dolu

Hi

One good place to find out how you can go about making such changes is the Nigerian Embassy in Ireland.

At the same time you should also contact the Irish authorities issuing your passport to find out what documents are required in making the new changes.

You will most likely need to legalise (Apostille Stamp) your new document in Nigeria once such changes have been made.
