EEA2 biometric residence card valid but passport due for renewal

Post by beetleblue » Mon Mar 19, 2018 2:37 pm

Hi all,

I have a biometric RC expiring in 2020 (EEA2 applied as unmarried eight-year partner of an Italian citizen in 2016). We got married 3 months ago and my passport is due to expire in September 2018. I wanted to get it renewed and at the same time, add my husband's name to it as well. I have not taken on his surname.

1. Would adding spouse name on the renewed passport, in any way, invalidate my EEA2 RC and I'd need to re-apply again?

2. I can forgo adding his name to the passport (esp if that would mean restarting a 6-month long application process again) and just renew my passport as normal. Does anyone know if there is any trouble travelling with the RC and both old and new passports?
I cannot see my passport number on my RC anywhere but I assume when they scan it at the airport, it is in some way linked to my old passport number, unless I am wrong and the RC is independent of the passport number?

I am deeply grateful for any advice!

Many thanks in advance
