I think someone on this forum (moOn) had £1000 in her savings and her husband got the visa. I think they look at savings and income collectively, so if your income is higher than average then I think you will be okay.
It might also be an idea to get a relative to transfer small amounts into your account to build up the balance slowly and then when you get the visa, pay it all back.

Is the rent shared between you and someone else? If so, maybe it is worth getting a letter from the landlord stating that the rent is split between you and another tenant.
You also need to get the landlord to put in writing that he has no problem with your husband living with you at the property (if you haven’t already done so).

Man, that's expensive for 1-bed flat..
You think the paperwork is a headache now, wait til you submit everything and you have the long wait for a response from the ECO's, that's a headache!!:)

Honestly, since my Husband handed in his application, I toss and turn at night thinking about it.
It's not good! These applications should come with a health warning like the ones you get on cigarette packets "Beware: Your health is at serious risk from this point forward".

Ladies,

If you are going to deposit amounts into your bank account (borrowed etc) - please dont over do it!

If you typically have about £1000-£2000 in your account, I wouldnt put any more than 10-15% per month over 3-6 months.

Otherwise, HO could rightly argue the 'inconsistent bank transaction' angle - then you get into appeal situations trying to find an 'audit trail' of the money.

Very messy.

If its any use - I showed a consistent £1000 to £1200 over a 6 monh period - pretty much regular outgoings and deposits. I borrowed £600, and deposited £100 per month into my a/c.

A very boring bank statement will do the trick! Anything too creative, and people sit up and take note.

I don't think ECOs are interested in the total value of the savings. Rather what they want to see is a regular pattern of transactions, both incoming and outgoing, over a period of time (eg: 6 months). That's the most important thing - to show that the sponsor will be able to maintain themselves, their spouse and any dependents without recourse to public funds. However I guess having some savings in your account and showing that you could use this on a rainy day if you have to in order avoid recourse to public funds, would help.

If you can show the above with a properly thought out monthly budget then you should be fine even with minimal savings in your account.

I'm sure I read somewhere that someone was in overdraft and their spouse still got a visa. Can't remember who it was though now...

I'd say about £50 a wk - MAX (£200/month)

Why don't you just use cash that you have borrowed from family member/friend to pay for your usual expenses, food, clothes, transport, etc etc instead of using your debit/credit card. That way, your bank balance wont go down (as you are using the cash you borrowed) and you don't have to worry about depositing "too much" money into your account. Just live off the money you are given; as you're withdrawing less and your salary goes in, your balance will blow up like a fat kid eating ice-cream sodas...!! :)

Khan, my wife submited her documents at the end of january. There was 6 months statements with the most recent date being the 21st december. In every month i was overdrawn, i had no savings. The visa was given within days. I think it all depends on the eco, as long as you make sure all areas are covered in your evidence.......
