Schengan Visa - Non-Eu member exercising Freedom of Movement

Post by Niranjahan » Sun Mar 25, 2018 6:04 pm

I am a Sri Lankan citizen holding “Permanent Residence Card” In the UK. My mother is a German National so I got the visa as a dependent (I’m over 18 now). In the past I Lived in Germany for 4 years before I moved to UK.

I am now applying for schengan visa to go to Germany to see my friends and family. I know I can travel without any visa if my mother travels with me but I am now decided to travel alone. When I make the application to German embassy, there is a question “ do you wish to exercise your right to freedom of movement” and is I wish to exercise then I don’t need to provide my travel details, bank statement or accommodation confirmation. I am not sure how this works- if they grant the visa, will I be able to travel by myself or do I still need my mum to travel with me since I’m exercising the freedom of movement rights

Here is the application form and end of the sectio. 1 you can see this question and explanation. It would be great if someone help me clarify this situation or have anyone used this option before?

You check "no" and apply like a regular tourist IF you are NOT traveling with an EU national family member AND you pay the visa free AND you provide all the documents they are asking for.

Germany visa application information page for the UK:

http://www.vfsglobal.com/germany/uk/EEA ... ember.html

where the following is stated
Any applicant, travelling without his/her EEA/EU or Swiss national family member, cannot apply as EEA/EU and Swiss national family member and need to apply as Tourist, i.e. providing all the required documents and paying the applicable visa fee.
