General Visitor Visa for a Friend

Hi,

Can you please advise me on the below:

My friend wants to apply for a UK - General Visitor visa. He is on Indian Passport but currently residing in US from last 3 months. He is employed in US and has a valid US visa for 6 years.

Is it best that he applies on his own OR should I provide sponsorship?
I am a British Citizen and have been residing in the country from last 8 years (approx)

If he applies for a General Visitor Visa on his own, I understand that he needs to submit following documents with his application:
1. Passport
2. His US H1B- Visa Copy
3. Proof of Funds - Bank Statements - 3 months
4. US Salary Slips - 3 months
5. Letter from the US Employer - Detailing his employment - Can anyone please provide me with a format for this letter or any pointers that what all it should include?
6. Lease agreement of his accommodation in US
7. Indian PAN Card
8. Property/Investments in India

Is there anything else he should provide along with his application, in addition to the above?

Please advise.
