Natualisation for freelance worker/Irish resident/UK citizen

Post by Siobhán_Bhreathnach » Mon Apr 02, 2018 3:04 pm

I'm have a long-term work association with Ireland. I'm a freelance artist and have worked short-term with Irish arts organisations and universities since 2015. I'm even a peer reviewer for the Irish Arts Council. I am happy with my freelance work which does not pay a lot but is going well, and I don't want a permanent job. I have just bought a house in Ireland and will be able to base myself in the country long-term for the first time (during the last few years I've been coming and going between Ireland and the UK, where I'm a citizen and where I still pay tax). I'm worried that, despite my commitment to making a life here, it may be complicated to get the stamps necessary as I'm not permanently employed.

Despite my name I have absolutely no Irish relatives recent enough to shorten or consolidate the naturalisation process. I'm not married, and will not be marrying in order to naturalise.

If anyone has any advice on my situation, I'd very much like to hear it, thanks!

If you are a UK citizen then you would not need GNIB Stamps as you are a EU citizen as well and have right to free movement.

Once you have completed 5 years in Ireland you can apply for naturalization. While applying for naturalization you would have to submit proof of stay for each year in the form of Bank Statements, letters from Irish Revenue, utility bills etc.

Once you have these it should not be a problem in proving that you are resident here.

Do let me know if you have any questions, would be happy to answer if I can :D
