E2 Visa renewal for the USA

Hello,
My family and I moved to the US in Oct 04 on an E2 Visa which was good for 2 years.Unfortunately things went horribly wrong and I lost the business that I invested into.My health suffered and I had to return to the UK.
Prior to returning to the UK I started another small business with my next door neighbor whilst in the US and it is doing fine.I want to return to the US and work but I dont have a visa and I dont know were to start.I have spoken to the US Embassy help line in London and they cannot help me.They symphathise with my plight .I cant go back on an E2 visa as I will not be making a"Substancial Investment"and I dont have a degree which is normally the minimum requirement for a H1B.I have a house and a business in the US and yet I seem powerless to move
It seems crazy to me that you invest several hundred thousand dollars into the US economy and no one is prepared to help.I some times wonder about the notion of us being the number 1 allie.
Can anyone help please!
