Confusion about IELTS please

Post by Mehreen » Sun Apr 29, 2018 1:07 am

Hi everyone.

Sorry for asking a common question but I am confused about my IELTS.

I am on a Tier-2 dependant visa due for ILR in May(5-year route). My husband and child are British citizens now.
I have given my IELTS in 2013 which was for PLAB( medical exam) and then again after 2 years( as it expired) for my Medical License(GMC) in 2015- both were Academic
I renewed my Visa in 2016 October for a further extension of 3 years.
My test centre is listed on the approved centre list.

Will I need to sit IELTS(UKVI/B1) again? I can't remember if I had to show any evidence of English language when I extended my visa in 2016. I really don't want to sit this silly exam for the 3rd time just because it keeps expiring!!
Also, I can't seem to find any dates before May :!:

are you studying a degree level in the uk? if so, if you graduate before you apply ILR, you don't need to prove your english language anymore.

But if not, because you never use your IELTS test result for visa application (no language requirement for tier 2 dependent) thus you cannot use expired result for ILR application, although it was from the approved test centre. You must sit the test again to prove your english language.

As told before, even you are the lecturer teaching english literature in Cambridge, you need to sit the stupid english test, to prove you can communicate with basic english, unfortunately.

Thank you very much for your reply. I am working as a doctor in NHS. I have graduated from India and have been here almost 5 years now. I have used my previous IELTS for my GMC medical license but haven't used it for visa purposes.
What about NARIC? Can I get my certificates verified by them? My problem is there aren't any dates before my application date and I need ILR for switching jobs in June. Plus I am going away to India start of June. Have my tickets booked and everything. Never thought IELTS would become such an issue! Especially I have given the stupid Academic one twice!
NARIC is my only hope. Would you suggest that?
