Urgent query- need to move business to new address

Post by sm12 » Fri May 04, 2018 10:39 am

I'm sorry for making a new thread but I urgently require help.

I'm having to move the registered address to a new address on 1st June. I'm applying next week.
Would it be ok to move to a new address while the application is under process? What happens if they ask for an interview? Do they give an opportunity to update your details and interview at the new address?

Thank you.

Yes, no issues with that

Hi Marcnath

Thank you so much for the prompt reply.
Will I need to write to them to update the address or just wait for them to get in touch?
Also, I won't have any mail at the new address like HMRC documents because these are not due soon.
Is this likely to be a cause of concern?

Also, another thing that I've been wondering is that if you have a virtual address, then how do you display your name outside the building? I understand the HO looks for this?

You have to provide the current 'registered address' of your business on the date of application.

You don't need to update HO until they get back to you for interview (in case).

You obviously can't display the name outside in case of 'Virtual' Office. Shouldn't be an issue.

You can ask you VO provider, if there is an option to display your company name elsewhere, if you want to.

There is no requirement to display the name outside the building :!: :!:

The actual rule is

You must display a sign with your company name:

- in characters that can be read with the naked eye
- in such a way that visitors to that office, place or location may easily see it
- continuously, but if the location is shared by 6 or more companies, each such company must either display its registered name for at least 15 continuous seconds at least once in every 3 minutes, or make its registered name available for inspection on a register by any visitor.

The last section is applicable to virtual offices and any decent service will comply with that, especially the last part.

Hi Marcnath

Thank you for this.
They have an online database and there's always someone at the desk. They show the database if anyone asks. Would this be acceptable?

They have a soft copy of the register I mean, available for inspection if requested.
Would this be ok?

That seems to me to meet the Companies House requirements. But your VO provider is the one that should be able to answer this question.
It has nothing to do with immigration rules other than having to meet the law.

Thank you. I asked them and they said they have thousands of companies registered with their office locations, so they cannot print and display a list. They therefore hold a soft copy in the form of a database with them.

They said that they have a soft copy/database that the HO can ask to have a look at if they visit the premises. As they have thousands of companies registered there, they do not have it printed out.

If there is no way of notifying HO about the change of address after applying, how will I handle any unannounced visits from them? I understand that these are not common, but I have read of a few on this forum.

I am applying on Thursday, so would be grateful if anyone could advise on the question in my post above.

If they land up unannounced at an old address obviously you can’t handle it unless you plan to monitor your old location somehow - so I am lost as to your question

Sorry, I mean that is there any alternative way to inform them, as the change of circumstances form applies only to the personal contact details?
I'm not sure but has anyone sent additional information by writing to them while the application was under process, and had them actually consider the extra documents or information? I know that some people sent extra documents but not sure if there was anyone here who received them back with other documents later on (which would suggest that the extra documents were passed on to the caseworker)?

Plenty of people including me had the additional documents returned. There was a case here where someone had forgotten a specified document (confirmed refusal) whose extension got approved a few days after the additional documents were sent. So, yes, it appears they are considered.

Thank you for replying.
I'm thinking of sending an updated current appointments report to them with a cover letter after we've completed the move.
For ILR, would the document be sent to the same address as that on the form (Durham) or the one on the biometric letter (Sheffield)?
