I applied for my citizenship through foreign birth registration at the beginning of March. I expected not to hear anything until fall. I've just had a question from someone regarding the correct address to send my paperwork back to, so I'm hopeful that I may receive it back sometime this summer rather than in the fall. However, I have been planning to change my name back to my maiden name prior to applying for my Irish passport. I was going to wait until my youngest child turned 18, but I'm realizing that I don't want to be stuck with the ex-husband's name on my passport for the next ten years. I was going to start the process a few weeks ago, so that I would have the name at least six months prior to applying for the Irish passport (when I anticipated a fall receipt of documents). But I've since planned to travel at the end of this month and didn't have time to request a new, US passport if I requested the change prior to my flight.
If I apply for the name change the first week of June, when I return from the UK, has anyone experienced that a name change less than six months before applying for their Irish passport has caused problems?
