End of Spouse Visa - Right Course of Action?

Post by bshansraj » Thu May 10, 2018 12:59 pm

Hi all!

My spouse visa is just about up, and my partner and I have had quite a tumultuous time over the past year of our marriage. Amid his infidelity, we went back and forth thinking about staying together but ultimately decided that I should leave. My visa is up on June 18, and I'm not sure what course of action I should take.

I've written to the Home Office to tell them about the relationship and that I'll be gone before the expiry date; however, there are some things I had lined up in the UK that I would really like to attend, and I was wondering if I'd be able to leave before the expiry date (to somewhere in Europe) and then come back for a bit in July.

My sister's wedding is on the 21st of July, and I'm a bridesmaid. I'll have my return flight booked and the wedding invitation, so I'm hoping that's enough proof for them to let me back in for a couple of weeks.

After that, I'll be back in Canada working on some contracts (I'm self-employed), and I'd like to come back to the UK for a little bit. Just because my relationship was such a mess (I went through a horrible bout with depression for the last three years), I didn't get to really see any of the places I wanted in the UK and Europe or see my friends as much as I would have liked.

Would it look horrible if I came back later in the year for a couple months? I'll have money saved from my contracts so I won't be working while I'm here. I don't want to get banned from coming back at all, but it would be nice to take a bit of time to say some real goodbyes before I start my life back in Canada. I'd spent 7 years here, and most of them were pretty harrowing - and I'd like to enjoy some time in the country before I spend the rest of my life back home.

Has anyone been in a similar situation? I'd love some help!
