UK citizen wants to apply for Irish citizenship

I have read the Citizen's Advice about applying for citizenship and am hopelessly confused. I understand that UK citizens have different requirements than other EU citizens, but I'm struggling with the concept of reckonable residence. Can someone explain how that is figured for UK citizens?
