Carer's allowance

Post by WetJeans » Fri May 25, 2018 12:10 pm

Hi,

I am a British citizen. My wife is a foreign national and just received her visa, with no recourse to public funds. We are now living in the UK and we have a severely disabled child who is also a British citizen. Am I correct in my understanding that the carer's allowance is classed as a benefit to the person who receives the money (ie. my wife potentially) and not my disabled chlid?

Given my current salary, it would work out better for me to give up my full-time and become the full-time carer and my wife would go out to work. This seems like a bizarre situation to be in - especially since I have more work experience, qualifications, etc... than my wife.

Can anyone confirm that this is the reality of our situation?

Many thanks.
