ILR - Owing tax

Post by csv20 » Tue Jun 05, 2018 3:00 am

Hello,

I am due to apply for my indefinite, 10-year route in a couple of months.
Last year, I got a letter from HMRC that I owe PAYE tax of over £1000, this could have been from me having multiple employers (agency work). I made a payment plan with HMRC to pay monthly and complete the payment in 3 years.

Will this outstanding tax affect my application please?

Many thanks for your kind reply.

B.

This is not your issue to worry about. Since it is PAYE, it will be taken care off by HMRC in your next year's tax code and tax deductions. This doesn't affect your ILR application and you don't need to declare it either.
I get the same letter every years almost since 2013.

As long as you are PAYE employee, You can trust me. As I recently applied and got my ILR approved and had such letters almost every year, and it is still being deducted from my tax code this year. Almost everyone is on 1150L I guess but my tax code is 985L. To double check you can call HMRC and see if there is any action on your part and pay the amount now itself instead of waiting for HMRC to deduct in next financial year's tax code.

And what do you mean by avoidable mistake? I think this is already done, you could have avoid it before may be.
