Life in the UK Test

Post by Rachelk » Sun Jul 01, 2018 6:20 am

Dear all,

Background:
I was granted DL to remain as a parent to a child with British nationality. He is now 9 years Old.

My first DL to remain was in May 2012
I renewed it in 2015 and the second DL was granted till August 2018.

I am in full time employment and my child lives with me.
I intend to apply for ILR in July 2018

Question:

Do I need to include in my application the Life in the UK test? I actually have not done it but been reading to take the test asap incase I need to.

Also regarding the English Language requirement, am I exempt from taking it if I have a degree qualification from a UK University?

If I need to prove it, would sending my award certificates be sufficient or do I need to prove through other channels?

Apologies if my questions seem silly. Issue is I am not sure if the Life in the UK test and English is a mandatory requirement for ILR applicants who are applying through the transitional route or any ILR application generally.

I have been reading through posts but unfortunately have not been able to find the answer as people's circumstances are unique.

Please help.
Thank you 😊

Short answer no, as you are a person applying for ILR on the basis of discretionary leave to remain.

You won't need to either of them for an application of ILR based on the DLR route, however, when naturalising as a British citizen there is no exemption and you would require to have both.
These are my 'views' and 'opinions'.
If in doubt always seek professional advice, or at least do a search for the relevant information. :P

If i make any mistakes, You are more than welcome to correct me.
